I think the reason a lot of people don't love this film is that they expect to much out of it. Critics all but worhship Christopher Guest's "mockumentary's", and in my opinion they are well deserved of the praise.... however, with such positive hoopla one goes in to the movie expecting an Oscar worthy performance.... or at least side splitting humour. Yet, Best in Show will not deliver if your expectations are that high.... it is subtle sarcastic type humor in these films and if you go into the movie waiting to crack up histerically at a Jim Carrey type joke then you are watching the wrong movie. If you rent it just to be entertained then you will find yourself rolling on the ground laughing at some of the hilarious antics of the cast. Most notabley Parker Posey who delivers one of the funniest performances ever as a perky, crazy lawyer who only shops from catalogues. Of course the entire cast is brilliant, and if you have seen Waiting for Guffman, A Might wind, or this is spinal tap you already knew that. Being a dog lover doesn't hurt either :P So.... if you are unfamiliar with Christoper Guest's films and heard that this movie is a knee slapper you might be disapointed... but for those you have a good subtler sense of humor then this movie is perfect for you. The reason I didn't give this film an A in Direction is because practically the whole thing is improvised with little actual direction.... doesn't mean it isn't good though! It's one of my favorites, so enjoy! |
