Great story, lousy execution

The tearjerking yet heartfelt book Tuesdays with Morrie was sensational, the movie? Not nearly as much. Meet Morrie Schwartz, a strange little sociology professor with a ton of heart. However, he unfortunately has been diagnosed with ALS (sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease) and is dying. But before he goes, he meets up again with his old friend Mitch Albom to put together a final thesis on how to get the best out of life. The movie is not a bad representation of the book but has one major issue: timing. The film is rushed throughout its telling of the story, and once the tearjerking death of Morrie Schwartz occurs, it's sad but not making tears shed. The acting is pretty good although some minor details tend to be overplayed. Overall, not bad but the book deserves better. |
