This great move inspired me and many others to pursue dance, music, art. Shearer is a wonderful ballerina and one of the most beautiful women on screen. Walbrook is compelling, suave, intense, dangerous. Massine is colorful, fascinating, creative, and wonderfully grotesque in his shoemaker dance role. The script and direction are expert and psychologically penetrating. The set design, costumes and lighting are so creative, and original. The whole thing is haunting, and beautiful. Let your kids watch it with you to start them on the road to appreciation of the arts. From the start, when the mob of students stampede up the theater stairs to the ballet, it brings out the intensity of love of the arts, once hooked. |
