Against overwhelming odds, the Spitfires (piloted by a small band of Brits with help from the Polish, Australian, Canadian Czech, and others) fight to prevent a German invasion by keeping control of the skies over England in Summer of 1940.
The is first and foremost a movie for plane buffs. There is some tremendous arial photography showing some of the battles. You get the sense that the writers went to great lengths (and large budget) to be accurate to what happened, but then were so reverent to the incredibly brave and tireless fighter pilots that they forgot to make them human. You never connect with anyone on either side, despite some great actors.
Overall a decent movie with some historical interest, but a disappointing story makes it barely passable. |
