Kurosawa tries Shakespeare and it works!
by Greg Linsun (movies profile)

Ran is a retelling of Shakespeare's classic tragedy King Lear and setting it up with Samurai. Obviously, there are some liberties to the time period and culture but Akira Kurosawa stays faithful to the classic tale and gives it a nice look for audiences that will appreciate a foreign language film such as this. Is it on par with Seven Samurai? No, not by a long shot but still holds together well and keeps it accurate while playing it by the culture. For those that like foreign films, I highly recommend this film. |
