American Psycho does so well for itself for the first two-thirds of the movie, then it simply falls apart into an incoherent mess. Christian Bale is fantastic as Patrick Bateman, a yuppie in the eighties obsessed with fitting in. He has a perfect job, a trophy fiancee, and a great apartment. (He's also perversly fond of eighties music). As his mind starts to unravel, the brutal murders begin.
As a fan of the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, I was hoping that the "director's cut" would be more cohesive and true to the novel. I was wrong. The end is still a mess, the only real extensions coming in the sex department.
A nice try, but not quite right. |
