A perfect movie for family viewing any time of the year. It is rated PG for reasons I cannot begin to fathom. The writing is superb and does not resort to bathroom humor or gross-out comedy at any time. And what kid who's ever been stuck in school all winter can't instantly relate? I'll bet there are also a few teachers out there who feel the same way!
Chris Elliott is at the top of his game as the sinister Snowplowman, bent on ruining the children's fun. His makeup is a bit over the top, but that actually adds to his rotten image. The storyline includes everything from comedy to romance to action-adventure. The acting is very good--even from the very tiny girl (supernaturally adorable newcomer Zena Grey). Chevy Chase's role was much smaller than the ads would have had us believe, but the film never suffers for that. I gave it an A+, but I wish I could give it at least a hundred of them. |
