I didn't know what word to use to describe this movie. A friend of mine asked me about it, because he wanted to borrow my DVD. I told it to him in juvenile terms, "this is the best movie in the world".

Ron Cheadle (Rosewood) and Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption) didn't make this movie a great movie. Don't misunderstand...they were terrific in this movie and it could not be a classic without them, but it's not great because they were in this film. Surpisingly enough all the actors contributed to this movie quite well. Jerry Oconnel (Sliders) did his part, and wasn't an anchor in the movie. Gary Sinase (The Stand) was so excellent in this movie, and this is an understatement. It was like all the actors and actresses were in this camp together for years, learning how to work well with eachother and become friends. Somehow, this tranferred into the movie. You actually felt as if they were true friends.

I honestly don't understand why people don't see this as a quality film. I may be biased however. I saw this film in the theater and was absolutely satified, like i'd gone to B rated diner, and received gourmet food by some fluke of nature. I saw this film again, sometime after 9/11 and teared when I saw the scene of the astronauts raising the American Flag on the surface of Mars.

I couldn't handle it. The movie shared some kinship with me. Originally seeing it when we were not at war with terrorism. When life here was simple and beautiful. This movie makes me believe in our ability to be more than the evils for which we live in. This movie proficied an era when we will not feel so alone in the universe (reminded me of how I felt when I first watched Contact, another good movie).

Come on now, out of all the Sci Fi related movies you've seen, can you honestly call this movie an F or even a D film? Not hardly. Watch Red Planet and tell me if Mission to Mars is a D film.
