The Last of the Mohicans is a hard-hitting epic, it fights on and on until it's crappy ending. It is definatly one of Michael Mann's best films, and can be considerd as one of the greatest epics of all time [Like Braveheart, Lawerence of Arabia, Star Wars, Ben Hur, Ghandi, and many more]

The Plot is simple, during the French and Indian War, three trappers [inculding Day-Lewis] rescue two english girls and bring them back to a fort. There the Hawkeye [the adopted white son of the two last Mohicans, who are trappers] falls in love with one of the girls. Conflict arises when Hawkeye helps some people escape from the fort, therefore he shall be hanged. Did I mention that the fort is under siege by French troops? Anyway the French let the English retreat from the fort only to be attacked by a Native American war party. The Three trappers take the two girls and Duncan Heyward a Major in the British army. They all try to escape west only to meet there end in on of the CRAPPIEST ending for a film I have ever seen! The end is: [SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER] One of the two real Mohicans die. Hawkeyes dad says a prayer, AND THE CREDITS ROLE WITH NO CONFLICT RESOLVED. IT WAS THE WORST ENDING BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE TAKING THE MIDDLE OF A GREAT ADVENTURE MOVIE AND CUTTING OFF THE REAL END. THIS END ISN'T HAPPY OR SAD AND IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU THINK!

One of the key hitting points is the strong charecter of Nataniel Poe or Hawkeye, played suppurbly by Daniel Day-Lewis. An equally good performence is done by Russell Means who played Chingachgook, Hawkeye's father. My favorite performence here, exculding Daniel's is Maurice Roƫves who wonderfully played the British officer Colonel Munro.

Another great part of the film is it's great cinematography and set design. The make-up and costumes are great. Every set piece is almost perfect, and it's musical score is amazing. The sets aren't out of Titanic, but they are still great.

Michael Mann's suppurb direction puts all the pieces of the great puzzle of a film together, and though it is not quite historically accurate, his concepts of the 1700's make it very fun.

Overall it is an almost perfect adaption of James Fenimore Cooper's novel, in fact, it is probably better. Though it may not appeal to many audiences, it can bore you to death if you do not follow the plot because the battle scenes are horrific not fun. It is equal to Braveheart and I hope you will enjoy it to.
