Disney is well know for making animation based
movies that set the bar for others. In this
attempt, they decided to put the bar in orbit!
Beauty and the Beast is by far one of the best
movies (animation or otherwise) that I've ever
seen. Nominated for an Oscar, it proves that
the art of storytelling and entertainment is
something that the whole family can enjoy.
The story highlights the lives of Belle in a
little French village. She's more impressed
with a good book and the far off sights and
sounds that she reads about then the the
very handsome and available Gaston.
Gaston on the other hand wants Belle to be
his wife. Why? Because she's the best this
little town has to offer and in his own
words: "Don't I deserve the best?"
In a far away Castle lives a prince that was
turned into a monster. His outward appearance
is a direct representation of his inner self.
He is cold, hard, mean and doomed to remain
beast he has become unless he can find true
love - and have someone love him in return -
by his twenty first birthday.
As a result of Belle's father getting lost
during a storm and seeking refuge in the
castle, Belle is about to come face to face
with something alarming. But as we know
with all Disney films, there is often more
then meets the eye.
=My Review=
I can't stop singing the praises of this movie.
Beyond the underlying tale, this work of animation
mastery uses hand drawn cells in conjunction with
CGI to bring the world of Beauty And The Beast to
life.
Each character in imbibed with life and and a
unique personality. Funny and sometimes a little
scary (for little kids), it owes alot of its
success to its voices. Robby Benson brings a
deep animal-type quality to the character of
the Beast.
The only other movie to really touch my emotional
chords stronger then this was The Hunchback Of
Notre Dame. If you haven't rented or watched the
VHS, you need to consider doing so. I also
strongly advise you to locate and purchase a copy
of the DvD. Its worth the time, effort and cost
invested.
