Hard to Find, Great to Watch!!!!

This film is very hard to find. I myself have a copy on VHS and I bought it from a video store that was going out of business.

The movie is well done and even though some of the effects may be considered dated it still holds up well. The movie is refreshing in it's take on an often redone musical, because it is not done as a musical!!!

Robert Englund does a fantastic job as the anguished Phantom, who even though he is cursed is looking for the affection of a young up and coming opera singer. He acts as her mentor and pines for her love.

There is a nice flashback scene to show how the Phantom became what he is. It is played against a rendition of Faust in the present as he remembers his own "deal with the devil".

The special effects are gory and comparable to Englunds "Nightmare" pictures. They are very well done and as said before hold up well.

The ending is fantastic and has a nice little nod towards the Phantoms motto" Music is forever!". The camera work is also above what you would expect from a lower budget film.

Do not pass up a chance to see this movie. I liked it so much I even bought the Soundtrack/Score which is also very hard to find. Give this one a try, if you can find it.
