Worth another look after the 2004 election

If anybody still has doubts after the election about the 2 cultures view of America, Paul Schrader's take on the heartland vs the coastland, from years ago still holds true today. Disclaimer: I like everything Schrader does. But this is the film where he shows us the LA porno industry through the eyes of a conservative midwesterner who never really thought about it much before, until it was literally brought home to him. Great acting by Scott, good work by Boyle and Hubley.
In the fashion of such work, the actual 'plot' takes a decided backseat to the main character's reactions and changes through the course of the action. |
