An Excellent Movie to A Confusing Plot
by Eric Ryder (movies profile) Feb 18, 2008
When I first watched "American Gigolo", I wondered to myself,"why is loved by so many people"? I was taken by storm to see how such a high-impacted movie like this one has only two responses in the user ratings. Coming into watching this movie I felt this movie was going to be a real stinker. The end results proved me wrong and eventually I ended up enjoying this movie dearly. The film was extremely entertaining and nostalgic like I was though I was transported back to the 1980's because it has a 1980's perspective about it. Though I'm not the biggest Richard Gere fan, I was impresssed with his best performance in his career and was deadpan accurate in his portrayal as a playboy.
Director Paul Schrader played it smart by not having to explain everything to his audience even in the smallest details which I found very compelling. The ending wraps thingts up beautifully; the last scene especially Gere's last words will have your emotions in full gear.
The plot was hard to decipher at times, but that could be forgiven because the brilliant acting by Gere, the musical score in the background by Blondie and Schrader's magnificent directing makes "American Gigolo" one of the best films of the 1980's.
