An interesting look into the mind of a scientist bent on finding what it is to realize the meaning of life. I would say, without quantified research, that the traditions of the Toltecs of Mexico (or whatever tribe it was) were closely imitated. Hallucinatory visions have always been a part of tribal traditions throughout history in aboriginal cultures. Bringing this into modern day culture, albeit 1980, is an interesting underlying theme to this film. Effects were fine for the day, character development superb and direction was good. I was only disappointed by the lack of digging into further comparisons to schizophrenia, drug culture and modern day society. This was an interesting concept to me and I wanted to see more exploration on the subject, but I suppose what was done in this film is evidence enough that all cultures throughout time have one supreme goal, find out where we go when we do not live and breathe on this planet. You will not find the meaning of life with this film. However, you will find some concepts that make you think a little more deeply about the depth of our own human computer, the mind.
