Well since I reference this movie all the time when rating newer ones, I figured I should write a review for it.
1'st the story is classic, one consisting of a deep devious plot with several twists and turns to keep things interesting. Overall it's a rescue mission that turns into a survival one but several other stories unfold.
2nd, the acting for this type of film has still yet to be surpassed. Paxton gave one of the most memorable supporting roles of all times in any film. People today 15 years later are still quoting some of his lines. Sigourney, Biehn, and even Lance were great too.
3rd the directing is a standard I hold all other films too to this date, The pace of the action was furious and this film started a momentum of it's own that seemed to build up steam throughout the entire course of the movie. Talk about being on the edge of your seat. If I remember correctly I left the theater in a cold sweat.
The visuals are still of the best ever from hollywood, when watching this film you actually get the feeling you are on an alien world being pursued by a vicious alien species. Couldn't have been any better especially for the time this film was made.
Overall if you want to see how a movie SHOULD be made then you must see this film. Cameron is IMO, the greatest director/story teller/producer of our time. Ya, Lucas gets some kudos too but if forced to choose It's Cameron by a mile.
