War in Space! Marines Vs.Aliens in this Classic!

This is the sequel by which all sequels should be judged.It is actually better than the original and that is not something that you see very often.The only man that could pull this off would be James Cameron, who's Terminator 2 is even better than his own Terminator 1.This is actually more of an action packed war movie than a sci-fi film.
It turns out that some morons have colonized the planet where the Aliens were discovered in the first film.Surprise, surprise! Nobody has heard from the colony in quite some time.Burke (Paul Reiser) wants to put together a rescue mission to go investigate the planet and see what's become of the colonists and he asks the first ship's only surviver,Lt.Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) to accompany him and a group of special ops Marines on the mission.At first she turns down his offer but after some restless nights and bad dreams she decides to go with, warning everyone about what they are getting into but of course they all think she's crazy.Still, they have enough firepower on board to take out an entire nation.It won't help.
Once this frenetic movie gets started it never stops.It's like a thrill a minute roller coaster ride where everything that happens is a total surprise.Everything is so frantic and out of control that's it's hard to keep track of the marines as they're wiped out one by one.The camera work is brilliant with rapid editing and frenetic pacing all set to a pulse pounding military style sound score.
This is a gung ho action film, hands down and that's precisely the problem that some critics had with it.It is nowhere as atmospheric or suspenseful as Alien but it makes up for it with thrill a minute action.The Aliens are horrifying creations of special effects and look all too real,with their teeth dripping ooze and their blood laced with acid.These double jawed killers are the most frightening aliens ever braught to the screen.They are killing machines, smart, quick and unrelenting-almost unstoppable and a mother alien is reproducing and laying eggs like a chicken on speed.
This movie is classic and features so many memorable moments.The best comes towards the end when Ripley rescues the little girl Newt and is
blasting away aliens and as the mama approaches Ripley utters though famous words,'Get away from her-you BITCH!'. Man, that's classic. The scene where Ripley discovers all the eggs hatching and the mother laying them through a disgusting looking slide type attachment and she goes crazy and flame throws everything and starts launching grenades is a classic too.The scene where the scumbag coward Burke runs away from the action and hides in another room,locking the door behind him only to discover an Alien right next to his face is another unforgettable moment.
God,I love this movie.I've seen it at least 30 times and I never grow tired of it.In a word it is amazing.The graphic violence and gore are all over the top and the showdown between the mother alien and Ripley in the giant Robotic gear is suspenseful and amazing. This whole movie is a big budget special effects extraveganza that never gives you a second to breathe. An all out action showcase which proves in a whole different way that war truly is hell. |
