This subaquatic, science-fiction story included the critical themes and messages that make a movie better than the others: selflessness, love, and friendship. One of the important take home messages I had after watching this movie was "Sometimes, you can rely on friends from a completely different kind than rely on your people from your very own kind".
The plot is greatly supported by the outstanding visual effects (if we consider computers were way less powerful in 1980s as they are now) and outstanding acting skills of the cast.Particularly, Mastrantonio and Harris did a very good job at handling the main characters of the story. The scene where they had a life-death decision was powerful and memorable. I think that "The Abyss" also is an important movie because it prepared the foundations for the following blockbuster "Alien" series. Pay attention to the friendly creature sneaking into
the rig is a predecessor of the not-so-friendly(!) creature in "The Alien"... |
