Good Action Movie Seagal Style

This was Steven Seagal's first starring film and is one of his best, sort of a tie with Under Seige
which ranks as his best work. Here he plays a Chicago cop teamed up with Foxy Brown Pam Grier herself. He doesn't hesitate to use brutal force (just like real Chicago cops coincidentaly)and his martial arts skills to get the bad guys. Not much of a story here, this is just a mindless action film in the tradition of Chuck Norris and Schwarzzie. It is stylish and gritty however, mainly just an excuse for over the top, gratuitous violence in the form of bone crunching and shooting for the most part.Seagal battles police corruption (plenty of that in Chicago as well) as well as drug dealers (plenty of them too). You can probably tell that I'm from Chicago so I'm rather partial to Chicago set movies. But as far as mindless 80's action pictures go-this one isn't bad.Revealed Seagal to be of the Charles Bronson & Chuck Norris school of acting but his martial arts moves were super cool and this launched his rather successful career and started a string of arm,leg and neck crunching action movies, all of which are pretty much the same and follow the routine formula. |
