Oceania is a dark world. Its desolation is reflected in the uniform appearance of the workers at Minitru, in the food they are served, and the dwellings they inhabit. Victory cigarettes, gin and mansions reflect the direness of life in 1984. The only victory Oceania and Big Brother offer is the victory over individuality. Richard Burton is excellent as O'Brien, the father confessor and inquisitor. This role was perhaps Burton's crowning glory and earned him his only Oscar- posthumously unfortunately. |
