Nice Different Style cop drama

This movie was a movie i wanted to see for a long time... it was part of my hunt to see as much (recent) best HK picture movie as I can. For the hunt of seeing all the good movies. Well this movie was hard to find in anywhere in Toronto. Than 3 weeks back, and my friend brought it for me, dont know where she find it...
Plot: Anthony Wong played a lazy cop, who doesn't really catch any baddie. He hang out in triad places, like illegal casino, and night bar. He is well respected in the area he police, and is a close friend with one of the triad boss (Roy Cheung). Well, in an attempted assissination of a triad boss that got wrong, the guy has to leave town. Giving his right hand man, his position (Play by Patrick Tam). Well the guy gone crazy, and he start doing worser and agressive traid stuff. Back to Anthony Wong, he just got a new boss (Micheal Wong), and he want to shake back the police team in that area because of the low crime solving rate. Soon... he got involve with the Roy Cheung wife, and know the rule of the game.
The movie is quite different from other cop movie. There no cops in this movie that are tough and follow by the rules like u see in many police story. Though these cop still have moral, that know when to not go overboard. Anthony Wong, don't exactly a corrupt cop, but he know the rule of the game and later in the movie we see why he gain so much respect. With nice style and great acting, this movie was entertaining and well pace. Anthony Wong, who won best actor and Patrick Tam who won best supporting actor. THis movie prove to be the besting acting movie of 1997. The plot was very good, but still probably the weakest in the movie. The way it ended was pretty standard and weak. The middle part doesn't seem like anything important is happening.
I would say that judging from the nomination, that i would pick this movie to be the best picture (though Who Am I is more entertaining).
BTW... not watching a lot of movie lately, because i just got a x-box, and been playing that for all my free time. Also was fixing my laptop and doing my unversity stuff. Well got those stuff clear well, now i have to work hard until mid term. |
