Not as gory as I hoped, but still good
by Daniel (movies profile)

I passed this movie up many times before, but finally decided to check it out after many people said it was pretty good and it was the only movie I hadn't seen that was mentioned in the Boogeymen DVD that was released a few months back. After viewing it I was a little disappointed by the fact that it didn't have as much as I thought it would, but it still kept my interest. I liked how the director used various different flashbacks to explain the Simon character's past and cause of the murders. I thought there were a lot of interesting imagery and a plot to keep me interested. I thought it was very weird how they used black blood to show a death of a person, instead of the realistic and traditional red blood. It was cool in certain scenes, but I felt it didn't really work well in others.
The acting was pulled off pretty well. I expected a little more gore than it had though. I was rather disappointed with the ending of the film. It was cool, but it kind of leaves you hanging and wanting to see more. I didn't really like that. What the main character refers to as "the ugly" is apparently like a split personality that the killer has. Like many real life serial killers, the one in this film was abused, which led him to his madness. Had some slow moments in the movie, but it wouldn't last long. Would have given the movie a lower-rating, but it had a lot of cool scenes and interesting moments. Nothing really scary or gory in the film though. I doubt there would be a sequel to this, but it wouldn't bother me much if there was one.
OVERALL
Not a bad direct-to-video. This is an interesting movie with some cool scenes. Not as gory as I hoped, but still had a good plot and directing. Check this if you want something to rent. |
