Godspell is a delightful telling of the never changing Gospel in an ever changing world. The setting and costumes are so quintessentially '70s from the wild hippie clothes to the big afros. I do wonder if one needs to be older to really get it. Being in my 40s, I saw stuff that I remember as a youngster in the '70s and it gave me a reminiscent feeling. I remember some being critical of the movie for showing Jesus in a Superman top and having long hair. I don't understand the criticism because Jesus is much more than the clothes he wore and the length of His hair. If a movie like this can reach one more person who thinks that life is about ladder climbing, money making, etc. then it will have been worth the effort. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, but especially to those who don't really know Jesus who thirst for meaning in life. Very well done. |
