Seven Hours Never Flew By So Fast
by Tom The Psychic (movies profile)
Jul 23, 2004
"LES VAMPIRES" starts with a dismembered human head in a box. After that,it gets weird! Many scenes of great power run throughout it's seven hour running time. Unfortunately, so do scenes of "comic relief" that have badly aged over the years. But this is a minor irritation. "LES VAMPIRES" remains a riviting film experience. It is a "serial" in form, and was probably never intended to be watched all at once, but just try NOT to. I have now seen the entire film over 7 times. The first time I saw it, I rented it. I got home rather late and didn't plan to watch more than a few minutes worth of the film -- just a taste, I told myself. When the sun came up the next morning, it found me still guled to the TV. Seven Hours seemed like seven minutes. I was completely caught up in the film and utterly unconscious of the passage of time.
I returned the rental copy the next day and immediately purchased my own copy. I would like to convey it's charm and power to you, but I am unable to do so, unable to find words wonderful enough to express my admiration. Rent it or buy it, but SEE IT right away!
Recently I purchased Fueillade's later film "JUDEX" and once again was transported into an enchanted (if dangerous and sinister) land. I highly reccomend them both.
Now if only Fueillade's "FANTOMAS" would be released. I would snap it up so fast you'd think that one of the Vampire's gang stole it from under your nose. |
