The Boxer got punched out
by Greg Linsun (movies profile)
Jun 5, 2008
This has Daniel Day-Lewis attempting to show a war-torn Ireland and trying to bring it slowly together via a gym should be good and inspirational. Nope. Instead all you get is a story you weren't expecting, lackluster acting, and easily some of the worst boxing choreography I've ever seen in a movie. Instead of that inspirational story I just mentioned you get a tale about a man released from jail for IRA conspiracy and tries to bring forth a gym that only unites two religions. The film tries desperately to have heart but fails to do so. Not to mention much like several other historical inspirational attempts to look good (Like the shouldn't-be-disturbing but it is Joyeux Noel) it's portrayed negatively and the ending will make you want to ask for the two hours of your life back. If you're looking for a boxing movie, get out of here, if you're looking for a government conspiracy film (yes, this pulls a Man of the Year as well) than here you go and enjoy |
