Derek Yee is an amazing director
by SkinnyboySlim (movies profile) Aug 12, 2004
This is yet another good movie from director Derek Yee, who made some faboulous movie like Lost in Time, Full Throttle, Viva Erotia and The Lunatics (all of them had been nominated for best picture).

It star Anita Yuen, Lau Ching Wan, Carina Lau and Derek Yee regular Paul Chun.

Plot: Lau CHing Wan play Kit, a jazz musician who had a string of bad luck. His relationship with famous singer tracy (Carina Lau) is going bad, he just lost a ton of money and his music career is going nowhere. He decide to break up and live on his own, it happen to be on top of a familly that stage public chinese opera song for money. Well there this very optimistic girl (name Min who play fantastically by Anita Yuen) who happen to be interested of Kit. She tried to lift the spirit of Kit, by showing him around and soon they become more than friends. She was also dignose with bone cancer...

One of the strongest and best performance from a female lead ever, Anita Yuen was perfect and look amazing real for this role. From the start to the end her facial was soooooo good. She really deserve the best female actress for this film. Lau Ching Wan didn't play that bad, in this movie he wasn't that charismatic, but that his character. His dark role wasn't has good has the Longest Nite or his other film with Derek Yee Lost in Time, but it was still decent. The storyline has a whole wasn't anything special, but the dialogue and how character react was excellent and top notch. The supporting character was pretty good, with Paul Chun showing another serious role.

The bad thing about this film which make it not get A or higher because of the obvious ending problem situation (when you watch it you can tell what will happen because this situation happen in many film and Hong Kong series). Also there were some opera singing which i am not fond of.

This movie win Best Picture beating out a pretty weak (has in not that great) films at that year like Tom, Dick and Hairy and Jackie Chan's Crime Story. I have to say this movie deserve to win and for sure recommended this film to anyone.
