As sci-fi films go, this is one of the most superior , deluxe and epic movies you are ever likely to see.
Based on the book of the same name, this film is perhaps the ultimate feel good sci-fi movie which also happens to be very very serious and very thoughtful and an all star cast.
This film is essentially Independence Day minus the violence, explosions and invasion but plus a brain. The real story behind this film is not whether there are aliens out there and what would be their intentions if they came to earth, but the more thoughtful premis on what is the nature of faith.
Foster plays a scientist (who appears thoroughly 1 dimensional until the final 2 minutes of the film) who is a devout athiest since the death of her parents. Her love of science is her religion and is only challenged when a pretty boy minister comes into her life.
When aliens finally make contact with earth half'n'hour into film we see a dramatic conflict between science and religion played out on screen, in the most intelligent and thought provoking manner.
The skillful twist at the end really can warm the heart of those individuals who believe in God but always fail when it comes to effectively proving to others why they believe in Him and if He really exists.
The acting from the two leads is perfect.... the all star supporting cast is very good aswell. The special effects are amazing and there is as much eye candy ...aswell as brain candy in this film.
This film is not for those who have a short attention span and demand lots of blood gore, t and a, and corny dialogue. |
