I can't say enough good about this film. The first time I heard the line about "seems like an aweful waste of space" I became acutely aware of why I had always been fascinated with the stars. Acting is top notch, not one single moment I didn't believe anyone of them. Direction is solid, film takes an interesting uturn at the 3/4 mark which I think saves it from what could have been a tragically typical hollywood cop-out ending. There are also several 'trick shots' that were fun to learn about later on. At the time of release, Contact was one of the more visually spectacular movies made to date. Though it has been surpassed since, it still remains a high caliber example of CG at its best. Funny that a movie so bent on explaining and using technology to further science becomes a righteous tribute to the spirit of man and 'His god'. |
