Martial Arts Acting is Real Acting

The once upon a time in China movies are the breakthrough movies for Jet Li, who is according to me THE BEST MARTIAL ARTS actor ever (yes, better than Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung or Bruce Lee). The Academy should start to take martial arts acting as a serious way of acting! It is far more difficult than the more traditional way of acting... Combining him (traditional Chinese) with the elegant (and more Westernized) Rosamund Kwan, makes them an ideal couple during the final years of the Qing Dynasty and the Opium War Period.
The plot in part 2 is even better than in part 1, and introduces the role of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the founder of the Chinese Republic. Although it is essentially a martial arts movie, it also brilliantly depicts the way of life and the way of thinking at that crucial period in Chinese History. |
