So yesterday I watched Evita, in all it's fullscreen, commercial-filled glory (yuck) on Much More Music. I had wanted to see it way back in '96 (I had even owned the soundtrack, at one point) but I just haven't managed to get to see it, until now.
So, it was pretty decent. I loved all the music, and Madonna did improve her voice tremendously for the part (however, I will still always love The Immaculate Collection). Jonathan Pryce is a great actor. The art direction was excellent, probably the best part by far.
I didn't quite understand why Antonio Banderas' character was there, and what purpose he really served. I mean, I know he was the narrator, but I don't really feel that a narrator was necessary, especially one that wasn't objective and didn't really like Eva all that much. Also, I don't feel that they quite pulled off the "chorus"...the random people singing in the background somehow didn't feel quite right.
The Opinion: I thought this would capture my attention far more than it did. |
