GREAT MUSIC! GREAT FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT!
by HonestMan (movies profile) Nov 23, 2006
It has been a long while it seems since I've seen the movie. I think I can safely say that its one of my most favorite.

The acting is great, the characters are charming and the music is often sublime. There is a terrific scene where the somewhat mischievious "Dudly", played to charmed perfection by Denzel Washington is asked by the preacher husband of Whitney Houston's character to take her out to dinner in his place. There's a following scene featuring music great Lionel Riche where Houston brings the house down; Denzel is left there helpless while at the same time falling in love with her in that moment.

This is still wholesome, great family entertainment with a good message. It might seem sparce in areas to some people but thats just because they are either too immature to simply enjoy good, clean old-fashioned fun or they just don't appreciate the subtle context of the script; which can appear at first glance, overtly simplistic.

When I first saw the movie, I was a bit younger at the time. I did not for once see color. All I saw on the screen was Whitney and her amazing voice and of course Denzel and Courtney B. Vance (the preacher character) and I could not help but be entertained and enthralled by their characters' story. I must admit, I relished the experience. Highly Recommended.
