This is one of those films that is destined to be a sleeping giant. Maybe one day this film will get dragged out of its dusty case and receive the mass adulation that it deserves.
It is probably one of the darkest comedies that you will ever see, and Carreys manic weirdo leaves us all simultaneously laughing and cringing. We all know that TV raised our generation and this movie places the blame squarely on the shoulders of our parents for decades of neglect.
Carrey carries (sic) this theme wonderfully, with his lisp, his needyness and his obscure cultural references.
This is an excellent film. Watch it twice. Especially the basketball scene. |
