Edward Norton gives a robbed-of-oscar performance as a altar boy who may or may not have murdered the local archbishop in Chicago. Richard Gere has probably the best performance of his career (in a career of not-very-good performances.) Laura Linney deserved an oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, for her tense pretege of Gere lawyer. But it's Norton who steals every scene that he's in-his character is twisted and Norton even add-libbed the stuttering that Aron has. I will not give anything away, but even the final scene is Oscar-worthy for Norton. probably his finest performance. |
