I have seen quite a few of John Travolta's movies and he seems to be one of those actors who totally *****s his career with one film and then suddenly resurrects it with the next, (Battlefield Earth, need I say more)? But despite his many movie flaws, (this not being one of them), one thing he does better than playing the good guy is playing the bad guy. And you combine that with the direction of John Woo, (who in my mind is the greatest action director to date), you get one helluva movie. There was a lack of visuals for this film because it's basically a bunch of egotistical *****s chasing after one puny, scrawny little guy. But on the plus side, the little guy has a nice looking piece of ass tagging along with him. Not a whole lot of explosions with this movie and that is something I do expect to see lots of with a John Woo movie. And one other final thing that John Woo does better than any director I have seen, he always one scene where he has one incredible standoff, (Face/Off, M:I2 are the best but this one has good ones too). I really liked this movie and that's why it cracks my top 10 at #9. |
