I thought the film was very powerful. The killers in the movie were not supposed to be sympathic. But I think when Sister Prejean's message is, is we are all God's children. We are not God. And if what the killers did was so monsterious and it was indeed, then what makes us any different for wanting to see their deaths? If murder is wrong, then why is the state killing murderers? In the book, which is better, Sister Prejean also talks about how man death penality supporters quote bible passages, but it people took the bible literally, people would be executed for adultry, stealing, prostitution, and many other acts that people might think people should be jailed or punished for, but not executed. I also thought it was very touching how Sister Prejean and the Hathoway's became friends. They never agree, but they still visit each other. And for parent's of a murdered child, to not hold anything against the woman who was against the killing of their daughters' killer, shows a true spirtual and moral person. |
