Sean Penn (Matthew Poncelet) plays a role of a convicted rapist and a murderer who is on a death row and is going to be executed. Susan Sarandon (Sister Helen Prejean) plays a role of a nun who for once looked like giving him spritual help but, mainly is for him to die with dignity--A convicted murderer I repeat.

Helen gets opposition from her family, people around her and the also the victims family but none the less she goes to him and talks to him. They talk about their connection, she talks about why she is a nun even though she is from a wealthy family. Matthew talks about his life how much he loves his family and hates the government.

And then the execution man o man. They have compared it with Jesus--yes Jesus it looked like they were killing Jesus the entire ceremony but, in the end you'll see the connection. It all adds up why the nun was there? What role did Mathew play in the crime etc?

The execution is dramatic. Entire time I had no respect for Mathew and then it was there. The soulful and legendary voice of Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with magnificent direction of Tim Robbins who brilliantly showed the excution. You'll feel sorry for the victims and the killer. In the end, reason of killing another person was nothing but hate.

This movie is an all out drama with a brilliant performace by two of the great Actors in the hollywood. Do check this one out if you haven't yet--you'll learn more about religion, humananity, hate, love and dignity.
