Spooky, Simple Fun

If you think you'd like to live in Mayberry, then you'll love Rachel, Kansas. Although this film has been around for decades, it can still coax a chuckle and rile the viewer against the villain. Certainly it's a simplistic view of small-town Americana, but the story-line and the quirky characters have a way of keeping your interest and at the same time leave you feeling relieved to shirk the heavier burdens of today's society. As far as audience appeal goes, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken can entertain adults if they are willing to accept it for the lighthearted mystery it is. The characters provide many humorous moments through conversation, wordless actions and of course the great physical comedy of Don Knotts. At the same time, it appeals to kids with it's mysterious music and bumbling antics of Knotts' Luther. As a child, I loved this movie the first time I saw it at a drive-in movie in 1968. I still love it today. But the best part is being able to share it with my young kids. No profanity, no nudity, no bloody violence. Just spooky, simple fun.
