Home for the Holidays is one of those movies you discover by watching HBO or Showtime on a boring Saturday afternoon. It's one of those movies that makes you apprecite a boring Saturday afternoon because you get so wrapped up in it you forget that your so bored. I Thoroughly enjoyed this movie because of it's captivating family dynamic among other things. You get the feeling that your not necessarily watching actors at work but that your watching an actual disfunctional and quirky family in action. Robert Downey Jr., Holly Hunter and Anne Bancroft among others really give a great showing in this film. There is not one miscast role, everyone is perfect or near perfect in there roles. Everyone is vulnerable, full of regret and have serious issues with themselves and each other as does any family. The real star of this movie is the one and the only Aunt Glady. Shes an old and adorable lonely women who nearly steals the show completely. Its a favorite of mine, I own it on dvd and I'd highly recommend it for ownership. I especially like to watch it around Thanksgiving because it has that feel to it. Just a great movie. |
