Forget about the fact that this is an obvious blatant rip-off of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Okay? Focus instead, on actor John Leguizamo's fabulous, excellent, extraordinary turn as Chi Chi Rodriguez, "a little Puerto Rican boy in a dress". He is so good, in fact, in this role, that you will actually forget that it is him playing a drag queen. John is a really terrific and talented actor who just watrampled all over Patrick Swayze's (awful, HIDEOUS!) and Wesley Snipe's (much better than Patrick, but still just so damned BIG!) mediocre impersations as Vita and Nozema. However, it must be said that Snipes is laugh-out-loud hilarious with many of his one-liners. But it is our precious little Chi-Chi who steals this picture and runs with it "like she's running for the border". You will want to watch this movie many times; it is THAT much fun, especially during Pride Month! |
