I bought the VHS back in 1996 or 1997.
As a young kid back then, I was obsessed with animals and so when walking by the VHS displays and spotted a movie with a panda in it, I immediately wanted to get it.
Here's the reaction I had after watching it (as a kid back then)...
FREAKY.
SCARY.
I mean, if you adore pandas, you'll want to just cry/die when the mother panda gets caught in the trap. That was about the traumatising/scary thing I had ever seen. I was in grade 1 or 2, so that's when I was around 6 or 7 years old.
Do not let your kids watch that.
Or at least warn them about it, though it was predictable that she'd get her food caught.
Yet overall, probably only because of my total obsession w/animals as a kid (and that my fave animal was and still is the panda) i found the movie to be excellent.
Now that I look back on that movie, that movie really was trash.
Fake pandas at times, predictable, bad acting, bad story, etc.
NOT recommended.
Only ever watch if you just want to marvel and dwell in the beauty of China and its adorable pandas.
Otherwise, no way. Don't endure it. |
