This POW drama is not exactly the type of film that appears on top 100 lists but it's a solid statement on the sheer strength of the human spirit.
Claudette Colbert the great French actress gives one of her best performances (one sadly overlooked by the academy for a nomination).
Set in South East Asia during the Japanese occupation (with some exterior shots actually filmed on location) the film shows a group of everyday wives and mothers seperated from husbands and their sheer will to survive.
A moving and touching film experience. |
