My favorite movie of all time

I speak fluent French, and am a hopeless romantic, so this movie appealed to me on every level.
I am amazed at how GOOD Kevin Kline's accent is in this movie. He does falter here and there, particularly with those very difficult-to-master r's, but overall he nails it: the accent, the gestures, the clothing, the "look." Normally, I am EXTREMELY picky about these things: take the Merovingian in The Matrix: oh, my God! Could they have found a WORSE dialect coach? The French R resides in the throat, but that guy sounded like he was hawking up a perpetual loogie. Every time I watch that movie, I turn the sound down when he's speaking, because listening to him just makes me cringe! Yes, it was THAT bad!
So, back to French Kiss: too many great lines to list here, perfect casting, beautiful scenery, perfect "naive little girl to woman" wardrobe re: Meg Ryan, fantastic soundtrack (Dream a Little Dream of me in French--gorgeous!), and sigh...that kiss in the train when she's dreaming. |
