Pulp Fiction is one of those movies that proves to be genius in all facets. Its story starts off so simple, and then becomes twisted into random events that make for a surprising and entertaining plot. Everything that happens seems so off-the-wall and unrealistic, yet it's grounded in violence and intelligent dialogue. The acting is incredible by the whole cast, but everyone is overshadowed by Samuel L Jackson's character, who seems to have changed by the end of the film, even though you aren't even sure what day or time it is in the movie. That is because of the brilliance of the screenplay written mostly by Quentin Tarantino. He crafted a screenplay that is not dictated by time. He instead crafts it based on events, and then puts them in the order that he finds to be the most effective. And he did a perfect job, as events in the middle of the film take place after the beginning and end, and really makes the audience contemplate each event afterwards. Quentin's visuals may seem like they are lacking at first, but he carefully chose each angle of every shot, and the end result is a movie that allows you to look beyond the visuals, and into the deeper meanings of the film. The story, acting, direction, and visuals all work hand-in-hand to deliver one of the most influential movies of the 90's and an extremely fun film. |
