This movie is about a group of older desperados who get setup on what is to be some of thems retirement robbery. So they flee to Mexico and in the process hook up with a Mexican general. He convinces them to steal an arms shipment inside the US. While they are doing all of this, Pikes'(William Holden),the leader of these outlaws, former partner is now working for the railroad and is hunting them down.

For its time this movie is very innovative. The violence and gore is tremendous and brings alot to this movie. The movie is also a unique in that it is a western with absolutely no heroes. The director does a great job of never making you want to cheer for the good or bad guy. As a matter of fact there is no good guy. William Holden does a great job and Ernest Borgnine as always does a great supporting job. If you are a fan of the Western then you will like, but it lacks the crossover appeal for those who do not like the western genre.
