This film is more about compromises than about anything else. It's about how the t.v. age has opened up new opportunities for all americans to compromise their integrity in the pursuit of fame. The best moment of the film is when wainwright (i believe that's his name) exposits on the harm done in front of the "sub-committee" or whatever it was interviewing him. He asks who gets hurt, what's the harm done, all the while not realizing that the harm is the sacrificing of truth for entertainment. This point couldn't be more poigantly made than in today's world of "reality" t.v. Who cares what's true and what's not so long as we are sufficiently entertained?
The movie does an excellently job of presenting the dilemma, while not actually coming out and pandering to its audience. |
