Not your ordinary piece of Graffitti

This was a terrible movie, which I loved. I saw it twice in 1994, when it came out, first in a theatre with one other couple, and a few days later in the same theatre - alone. Then, it - justifiably - dropped completely off the radar screen. However - as a child of the sixties - I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was an attempted American Graffitti sequel, but frankly was overdone. Whereas American Graffitti was incredibly accurate in evoking its era, in There Goes My Baby all the cliches and stereotypes of the era die of overexposure. I don't know about director Mutrox, but in my hometown in 1962 there was only one John Milner and everyone else drove six cylinder 1953 Chevrolets. A street full of flamed rods and customs was only in our dreams. Nonetheless, as a (personal) visual treat - not an exercise in great storytelling - I personally enjoyed this movie and love having the original movie poster hanging in my garage. I knew most of the folks in the movie; just not as personally and intimately as I knew each and every character in American Graffitti. Whereas I LIVED American Graffitti, I merely enjoyed seeing There Goes My Baby. |
