White Trash never made me more angry...
by Jeremy P (movies profile)

John Grisham may be a good writer (personally, I've never read one of his books), but his movies, from what I've seen, are so-so at best. The Client is no exception. Throughout the entire movie there really is no one to cheer for. Let's see: do we cheer for the weird bad guy who dresses like he is the disco inferno? Do we cheer for the trailor park trash kid who cusses way too much? The mother who loses her cool at the drop of a dime? How about the lawyer, played by Tommy Lee Jones, who acts like an arrogant ignoramous throughout the entire movie but, in the end, we are supposed to understand and accept as a good guy? Wait, I know, we can cheer for the female lawyer, you know, the one who is a recovering alcoholic and has no real charisma whatsoever. You can't care about the characters, therefore, you can't care about the story. This movie had some bright spots, but not many. Thumbs down! |
