Here is a film I had never ever heard of until one Sunday morning flipping through the channels I stumbled upon it. I didn't have time to watch it all but the 30 minutes I did get to watch had me intrigued. A few weeks later I eventually set out to buy the DVD. No one carried it and then out of nowhere Circuit City had it. I bought it and watched it. I got more than what I expected...the jokes are tasteful ( although I enjoy crude/toilet humor too) and the drama is fun to watch. Tim Robbins plays the main character Norville Barnes a nobody who becomes somebody at Hudsucker Industries by being chosen to replace the President of the company who commits suicide during a meeting. Barnes is picked because he is a total clumsy , bumbling fool and with him at the helm Hudsucker Industries will surely fail miserably causing the company stock to plummet low enough for the chair members to buy 100% of the company and then fire Barnes , "revive" the company and in turn become Ultra-wealthy through the company stock. But the plan backfires as Barnes has this invention "For the kids" that will impact 1958 America. When success goes to Barnes head , well thats when the fun begins. This movie is directed brilliantly and the cartoon-ish feel to it is a visual treat.
I recommend this film to anyone who wants to view something different. Its just good clean fun all around. |
