I watched this film at college last year. Guess what. I LOATHED it in EVERY WAY.
This film was SILENT. It was silent because it does not have much dialogue. It was also silent because it had a man using sign language. The parts of the film where the man was using sign language brought it down. If I`m not mistaken, the man had a conversation with the priest in the middle of one of the weddings. I think it was INAPPROPRIATE because you must NOT interrupt a wedding. Weddings are VERY SPECIAL so they must NOT be ruined by people making interruptions. I felt like FALLING ASLEEP when I watched it because it was SO BORING. The film made me bored because it does not have much speech.
This film is THE OPPOSITE of "ROMEO AND JULIET". This is because its title is the opposite of the plot of "Romeo & Juliet". The Shakespeare play finishes off with the deaths of ROMEO, JULIET, PARIS and LADY MONTAGUE (NOT Mercutio & Tybalt, they died earlier on in the play). There is also the wedding of Romeo and Juliet, of course! That makes up ONE WEDDING and FOUR FUNERALS! This film, "Four Weddings & A Funeral", is the OPPOSITE of the ending of "Romeo And Juliet"!
There was a scene where the bride was coming into the church at the beginning of a wedding. One of the guests said, 'She`s very beautiful.' But the woman sitting next to her said, 'NO, SHE LOOKS LIKE A BIG MERINGUE!' The woman probably said this because she was hungry, and it was the first thing that came into her head when she saw the bride dressed in white.
Rowan Atkinson did a BAD job of playing the priest. He was a very GLOOMY character. I`m not used to seeing Rowan Atkinson behave like this; he`s usually playing characters who make the audience LAUGH. Even though I am one of the biggest fans of Mr Bean, I feel that this is the worst film that Rowan Atkinson has been in.
I did NOT enjoy any of the jokes. There is NOT a single funny thing about this film. If I do NOT enjoy a comedy film (one that`s MEANT to be funny), it means that the film is NOT funny at all. |
