Why does it seem like the special effects from the late 70's to mid 90's seem to be better than the effects that are used today? I have no idea, but if I were to take a guess, it is because such hard work went into them, that what we see on screen is the blood, sweat and tears of the people who made them possible. Today, special effect wizards seem to be lazy and this translates through to the special effects. They think the easy way out, is to just use CGI and nothing else. This comes across clear in two movies for me, Spiderman and Die Another Day. To me, Spiderman didn't look, seem, or act real at all and in Die Another Day, the parasurfing sequence just looks horrible. The effects are becoming less and less believable as time goes on, when they are supposed to become better as time passes on, due to technological advances. Maybe its just me, but I like the older effects in movies such as Superman and Star Wars. Okay, now that I have ranted on that, you maybe saying to yourself, okay, now get on with your point. 1993's Jurassic Park, to me seems to be one of the last (Ironic that it was one of the first) movies in which the CGI looks teriffic. You actually believe that the dinosaurs are real, alive and actually attacking the humans. Stan Winston and his crew did such a good job, that it is almost unbelieveable that they pulled it off. But effects aside, this is such a great movie, because of the plot, acting, direction and music. All of these elements combine make a great movie, and they don't fail hear. John Williams score along with many of his other scores still last to this day. Steven Spielberg once again shows that he can make a movie into a classic and the story by Michael Chricton is great and believable. I have no clue why some of the critics didn't give this movie an A rating, but in my book, this is worthy of an A rating.
