Okay, first of all, this movie is NOT just for people who like chess. I was about nine when I first saw this movie and I didn't even know what chess was. I liked it. Over the years, it has been my favorite movies. If you like sports movies like The Mighty Ducks, Hooisers, and Rocky, you will like this film. But I have to tell you, ten years later, yes, I am now a tournament chess player and I can relate to this film. It is a great family movie and the kids will like it.
Secondly, this message is for chess players. There is a negative side to this movie and you may take it the wrong way and it can hurt your game. SPOILER! At the end of the film Josh starts loosing because they won't let him play at Washington Sqaure anymore, but when they let him play speed chess there again, he starts winning. You may take this as speed chess is the way to go, but it's really not. The message was, if you push a kid to do something they don't want to do, they won't perform.
Watch this film. It is great in every way. Who knows? Maybe you'll gain an interest in the game. |
